Ireland's Only Hydrogen Powered Car Comes to Saltmarine

Saltmarine Hyundai are proud to have taken delivery of the only hydrogen powered fuel cell car in Ireland.

This unique Hydrogen powered Hyundai ix35 came to Saltmarine recently for a customer to take an extended test drive. The engine is completely silent, making no noise at all and it only emits water, so there are no polluting or harmful fumes going into the environment.

Why Hydrogen?

Hydrogen is the key to a future of sustainable motoring. Making up approximately 75% of the universe we live in, it’s in abundance compared to the finite fossil fuels used by combustion engine cars. The process of passing hydrogen through a fuel cell creates energy much more efficiently than the chemicals used in gasoline. It can also store the energy it creates unlike the electricity needed to power electric cars.

Finding an infinite and efficient resource for powering cars is essential. However, the most important reason to develop hydrogen fuel cell technology is that each vehicle produces zero exhaust emissions. With only clean and recyclable by-products emitted through driving, the result is a sustainable motoring future.

Real world driving

In marrying our new fuel cell technology with the ix35 we wanted a vehicle that could match or exceed its combustion engine counterparts at every turn. We put its power, reliability and longevity to the test, logging 2 million miles in some of the most extreme driving conditions on Earth - from the blistering heat of Death Valley to the Baltic ice fields of frozen Sweden. And with a 100KW (135PS) power output, top speed of 99mph and 0-to-62mph time of 12.5 seconds, the ix35 Fuel Cell exceeded expectations in every test, while operating in virtual silence and emitting nothing but water vapour.
